Manor Royal Matters 2015

Delegates from a wide range of businesses across Manor Royal packed Crawley's Sandman Signature Hotel for a new business conference created exclusively for the Business District.

Crawley MP Henry Smith was one of the keynote speakers at Wednesday's event which highlighted matters of economic importance to the Business District, and promoted how the BID and its partners are helping companies save money by trading locally.

Other speakers included Trevor Williams, of Thales UK and Chairman of the BID, Alastair McDermid, Airports Commission Director at Gatwick Airport, Clem Smith, Crawley Borough Council's Head of Economic and Environmental Services, and Manor Royal BID's Executive Director Steve Sawyer.

The Manor Royal Business Improvement District (BID), a business-led initiative that raises funds to re-invest in the area in ways decided by the businesses themselves, is the biggest in the UK.

At the conference businesses got to hear about the significant improvements being made over the past two years of the BID and the changing environment in which Manor Royal businesses are operating.

Mr Sawyer said there were also workshops at the event that focused on people matters, transport and security matters, and local trade matters and proved to be very popular.

"Manor Royal Matters also gave businesses the chance to network and make local business contacts, as well as providing an update on the latest BID projects" he continued. "It was pleasing to see so many businesses coming together in one place, listening to our excellent guest speakers and taking advantage of the brilliant workshops."

He added: "Through events like this the BID is starting to create a strong sense of community as well as boosting local trade. The BID is at an important stage in its development and through these events we are able to demonstrate the progress we are making as well as gather ideas able future priorities."

The Manor Royal BID is halfway through a five year term and has already delivered improvements to broadband, entrance ways, security and facilities for staff and visitors.
