Get involved in new Older Workers Pilot
A new initiative involving Coast to Capital LEP and the National Careers Service has started across Manor Royal. This partnership is supported by the Fuller Working Lives Team at the Department for Work and Pensions.
As the UK workforce ages and fewer younger people enter the labour market, employers will increasingly need to rely on the skills and experience of older workers if they are to remain competitive, increase productivity and growth, and avoid skills shortages in the future.
While there are more people aged 50 and over in work than ever before, there are still significant numbers of older workers leaving their jobs prematurely – a decision that can affect them both financially and socially.
With this in mind, the National Careers Service will be giving impartial information advice and guidance to employees aged 50 and over and for those to whom age is a barrier at selected sites within Manor Royal, in order to up-skill and retain them in the labour market.
Kirsten Trussell, Head of Strategy and Policy at Coast to Capital LEP said of the initiative: “Our population is ageing faster than both the wider South East and England as a whole. We expect to see 11% growth in 50-64 year olds and 68% in the over 65s by 2039 . Ensuring that we continue to benefit from the skills and experience of our over 50s and investing in new skills such as digital is essential to the success of the local economy.”
