Joy for Driver Hire in Manor Royal's 6-a-side tournament 2015
Fifteen teams battled it out last week to be crowned the Manor Royal 6-a-side champions for 2015.
It was the fourth time the event has been held and this year's tournament took place last Thursday on the astroturf at K2 Crawley.
Manor Royal BID works with the Freedom Leisure Football in the Community Team to organise the event and in total, 120 players took part.
Driver Hire, CGG, Link 3 UK and reigning champions Armarii emerged from the group stages, which set up two tense, hard-fought semi finals that were both decided on by penalties.
CGG emerged victorious in their semi final against Link 3 UK and Driver Hire knocked out last year's champions, Armarii.
The final saw two well-matched teams play it out for the trophy and the game was decided by a single goal by Driver Hire to hand them the Manor Royal Shield and the honour of being this year's champions without losing a single game.
Speaking afterwards, Steve Sawyer, Manor Royal BID's executive director, said: "It was a great evening that brought together so many from across the Manor Royal Business District.
"Of course everyone likes to win but really the tournament is about building a sense of community, keeping fit and breaking down barriers.
"This is just one of the things the BID does in support of Manor Royal in support of its aim to a better working and trading environment. This is our fourth year doing this and it's been the best yet.
"I would like to personally thank Ed Stimpson, the Football in the Community Co-ordinator, for his efforts in making the tournament run so smoothly and all the referees."
Nic Chaviaris, director at Driver Hire, added: "We were absolutely delighted to be crowned winners in our first year.
"We were not sure what to expect but we were blown away by how well this was organised and it was nice to see some of our clients without their business face on.
"We have a true team in and out of work and that showed on the field. A big thanks and congrats to Curt, James, Tom, Peter, and Robbie as well as everyone that help organise this - we're looking forward to the next one already."
