Manor Royal park wins national award

Manor Royal park wins national award

Manor Royal's People's Park scooped a national award yesterday (Thursday 5 November).

The park, also known as Crawter's Brook, won one of British Business Improvement Districts' (BIDs) Proud Projects Awards at a special ceremony at Canary Wharf.

The green space was considered the best project from over 70 entries, and 1 of only 4 Proud Project winners, from around the country as judged by a panel of business and industry experts from British BIDs, a national organisation representing the Business Improvement District industry.

Manor Royal BID's Executive Director said the success was down to excellent team effort, strong partnerships and brilliant community support.

"It is a great achievement and recognition of the hard work that has gone into creating a great facility in Manor Royal for companies and staff in a way that respects the natural environment," he said. "The award is also an endorsement of the Manor Royal BID's commitment to improve the area for those that work and do business here."

He added: "From the beginning of the BID, we've been committed to improving the environment of Manor Royal Business District for both the businesses and those that work here. In a short space of time, the area has become much used and enjoyed by local people and the park wildlife is thriving."

The project, which was designed and delivered by the Manor Royal BID, benefited from grant funding from West Sussex County Council and the co-operation of Crawley Borough Council.

The park on Manor Royal was formally opened last year by HRH, The Duke of Gloucester. This week's announcement comes after the green space scooped a silver award in the conservation area category at this year's South and South East in Bloom competition.

The creation of the People's Park is just one of a number of projects the Manor Royal BID is delivering over a five year period to improve the area as a place to trade and work.
