Manor Royal business marks World Cancer Day with pedal power
World Cancer Day is a very significant date in the Varian Medical Systems calendar, resonating closely as it does with the pioneering radiotherapy and radiosurgery work of this world-leading Manor Royal-based company.
To mark World Cancer Day 2016, two Move n Smooth "smoothie bikes" were installed at Varian and staff were invited to "pedal their way to five-a-day", making their own fruit juice smoothies thanks to the pedal-powered blenders attached over the front wheel of each bike.
Varian Medical Systems is committed to the wellbeing of staff and Nick Moritz, UK Financial Director said: "Working in the medical industry, we are vitally aware of the many small steps we can all take to improve our fitness and longevity. Healthy lifestyle choices play a vital part in promoting mental and physical fitness and I am delighted that so many staff participated in this fun but symbolic activity. We hope that everyone will feel encouraged to exercise a little more often and to increase their intake of quality fruit and vegetables."
On a global scale, Varian Medical Systems led the way with a broad campaign of interesting and informative World Cancer Day messages via internal and external media channels and, following the success in the Crawley office on World Cancer Day last year, free fruit was made available to staff at many Varian offices around the world.
