Manor Royal ‘Know your Neighbour’ brings businesses together

Hundreds of delegates from a wide range of businesses across Manor Royal packed Crawley's Crowne Plaza Hotel conference centre yesterday for the business district's networking event of the year.

Around 300 people attended the Manor Royal BID's event which featured 64 exhibitors including Varian, BC&E and Avensys. Three seminars were also held throughout the day, including a dynamic speed networking session, which provided attendees with an opportunity to promote their products and/or services.

Another seminar provided an update from the Manor Royal Business Improvement District (BID) Board and a third featured a presentation by international speaker Sarah Hopwood, who urged attendees to collaborate with each to achieve success.

One exhibitor, Dave Porter from SOS Systems said at the event: "Being a member of the Manor Royal BID is brilliant for local businesses like ours, because we can promote our company and its services to many potential customers at events like these, with minimal effort and cost."

Founded in 1985, SOS Systems has forged an enviable reputation for supplying and maintaining imaging equipment throughout the UK from its Crawley base.

Trevor Williams, Chairman of the Manor Royal Business Improvement District (BID) was delighted with the turnout. He said: "Sometimes it's easy to forget that at its heart, our business district is all about people. The BID team works hard to bring people together so they have the opportunity to create and exploit collaborations for mutual benefit. In my view, that's what a successful business community is all about."

Steve Sawyer, Executive Director of the Manor Royal BID, added: "This is the fourth time that the BID has organised this event and it just gets better. There was a real buzz in the room with people making new connections and getting to know their neighbours alongside stimulating debate about how we want Manor Royal to improve."

The Manor Royal BID is now into the fourth year of its first five year term. During which time a number of significant improvements have been delivered. Among the highlights so far broadband has been improved, award-winning facilities created, savings to businesses and staff on training and travel delivered, crime has gone down and satisfaction levels increased. The Manor Royal BID, which has been set-up and run by local businesses, is the largest of its kind in the UK.
